Directions & Travel
Raleigh, North Carolina, is conveniently located and easily accessible by various modes of transportation. Here is information that could be helpful for planning your trip to the PO2 Workshop.
By Air
- Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) is the primary airport serving the region. It offers numerous domestic and international flights.
- From RDU, you can rent a car, take a taxi/ride-share, or use public transportation (GoTriangle) to reach downtown Raleigh and surrounding areas.
By Car
- Raleigh is intersected by several major highways:
- I-40: Runs east-west through the city.
- I-85: While I-85 does not go directly into Raleigh, it is close by and connects to I-40.
- I-440 (The Beltline): A loop around the city, providing access to various neighborhoods and suburbs.
- GPS or online mapping services generally work well around Raleigh.
By Train
- Amtrak's Carolinian and Piedmont lines serve Raleigh's Union Station, located in downtown Raleigh.
- This provides rail connections to other cities along the East Coast.
Lodging
Downtown Raleigh offers many accommodation options within walking distance to the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences. A few options are listed here, though note that this is not meant to be a recommendation of any specific venue.

Safety
Raleigh is a welcoming and generally safe city. However, as with any urban environment, we encourage you to take standard safety precautions:
- Be aware of your surroundings and avoid poorly lit or depopulated areas, especially at night.
- Keep valuables secure: Avoid displaying expensive items and keep bags and personal belongings close.
Visas and Travel
Please note that travelers from most countries will require a visa to enter the US. You can find current requirements and information on how to apply for a tourist visa here. We recommend that this be done as soon as possible.
